Las personas nacen con hemofilia. No se la pueden contagiar de otra persona, como un resfr\u00edo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Generalmente, la hemofilia se hereda; esto quiere decir que se transmite a trav\u00e9s de los genes de la madre o del padre. Los genes portan mensajes acerca de la manera en que las c\u00e9lulas del organismo se desarrollar\u00e1n a medida que un beb\u00e9 va creciendo hasta hacerse adulto. Los genes determinan, por ejemplo, el color de pelo y de ojos de una persona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A veces, la hemofilia puede ocurrir sin que haya antecedentes familiar de la enfermedad. \u00c9sta se denomina hemofilia espor\u00e1dica. Alrededor del 30% de las personas con hemofilia no la contrajeron por medio de los genes de sus progenitores. Fue causada por un cambio en sus propios genes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00bfC\u00f3mo se hereda la hemofilia? Cuando el padre tiene hemofilia pero la madre no, ninguno de los hijos var\u00f3n tendr\u00e1 hemofilia. Todas las hijas portar\u00e1n el gen de la hemofilia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Las mujeres que tienen el gen de la hemofilia son llamadas portadoras. A veces muestran signos de la hemofilia, y pueden transmitirla a sus descendientes. Para cada uno de sus descendientes, hay un 50% de probabilidad de que si es var\u00f3n tenga hemofilia y un 50% de probabilidad de que si es mujer sea portadora del gen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Una mujer \u00fanicamente puede tener hemofilia si su padre tiene hemofilia y su madre es portadora. Esto es muy infrecuente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
